Why Dialogue?
Two years ago, I set out to study of environmental activism in different political and culture contexts around the world. A year of travel revealed to me that we are disconnected from the Earth because we are disconnected from each other.
Where science and technology feel distant, I found that people and their stories can offer a different path.
I hadn’t heard of dialogue till joining One Small Step but, almost immediately, my world was altered. Developing and implementing dialogue programs on college campuses illustrated how sharing our life experiences can help others better understand our values and beliefs.
Deep listening and curious reflection are now deeply woven into the fibre of my being and I feel called to bring dialogue to bear in our efforts to be more thoughtful stewards of the land around us.
My Background
The son of South Indian immigrants in San Jose, California, I grew up surrounded by the children of other tech workers. My elementary and middle schools–full of other ethnicities–exposed me early to American variety. Moving to India for high school revealed to me how similarity at the surface, in the color of our skin and the sound of our names, can give way to a complexity within.
My Approach
I believe the best skills are the ones we instinctively use.
Informed by disaster psychology, learning theory, and the neuroscience of habit, I design programs that are self-contained and sticky, equipping participants with the skills and instincts they need to respond rather than react. Above all, I seek to create durable behavior change through my work.
